We're committed to making a greater difference: to raising standards and improving lives across England. Our inspectors play a key part in doing so.

Now we're looking for passionate people who share our values of putting children and learners first. Find out more about opportunities in the following areas:

Further Education and Skills

We're challenging the further education and skills sector to improve faster. To do this we've introduced a more challenging inspection framework that we believe will be a catalyst for improvement across the providers we inspect. These include:

  • further education colleges
  • sixth form colleges
  • independent specialist colleges
  • higher education institutions that provide further education
  • independent learning providers
  • community learning and skills providers (e.g. Local Authorities, specialist designated institutions and not-for-profit organisations)
  • employers
  • prime contractors for the National Careers Service
  • 16-19 academies

As an HMI in this remit, you'll work across a variety of these settings, using sound judgement and in-depth knowledge of current further education and skills issues to make sure that education and training provisions effectively meet learners' needs.

You may currently be a principal, vice principal or faculty head. Whatever your background, if you are a senior leader who wants to drive improvement within the further education and skills sector, then the role of HMI may be for you. In return for your talents, we offer a range of benefits including professional and personal development opportunities that take your skills and experience further too.
